PCTC Hosts Canada’s Ambassador to the Philippines H.E. Christopher Thornley in Vancouver, BC Ambassador Christopher Thornley, Canada’s Ambassador to the Philippines, recently visited Filipino communities in Canada, and was hosted in Vancouver by the Philippines-Canada Trade Council (PCTC) in a simple dinner-reception at the Coast Coal Harbor Hotel in downtown Vancouver last October 04, 2010. The Filipino inspired dinner was followed by a short welcome remarks by PCTC President Mike Calingo, and followed by Vice Consul Melanie Diano from the Philippine Consul-General’s office, who introduced the main guest of the evening. Ambassador Thornley then gave a 30-40 minute speech about his new assignment as Ambassador to the Philippines, the Philippine’s new government and the challenges at hand, and trade opportunities between Canada and the Philippines particularly in the fields of renewable energy, business-process outsourcing (BPO), mining, and education. A short question-and-answer portion then followed. The event was very well attended with a good number of PCTC members and guests that included presidents and CEOs of various companies in Canada, and by some local media groups that covered the event.
